The songs were all Lennon/McCartney compositions and I've never been fond of remakes of Beatles songs. Most of the time, people will interpret the songs in a way that butchers a song that we've come to love. For that reason most performers have avoided singing Beatles songs because of the uproar that would come from fans of the Fab Four.
But last night, most of the performers seemed to get it. They knew that they were handling music from the best songwriting team of all time and they worked really hard to get it right.
Were these the same singers that destroyed some of the great hits of the sixties and seventies? Two weeks ago I was throwing things at the TV because the musical arrangements were so lame and the the performances were so amature. What a difference!
There are still some people that are way out of their league. When Kristy did the country version of Eight Days a Week, I not only wanted to vote her off the show, I wanted to revoke her citizenship. Then, there was the cheesy version of I Saw Her Standing There done by David, what was he thinking?
Best of the night for me was Chickezie singing She's a Women. He seemed to know how far he could push the opening flavor of the song before changing things up.
