Race for the Cure is this Sunday morning and about 19,000 people will gather at Eastland Mall to participate.

Here’s what I like about Race for the Cure: It’s a celebration! People participate as a way of celebrating the lives of those who have survived breast cancer. It doesn’t matter whether they’ve survived 42 years (like Barbara) or they’re just starting treatment (like my friend Margaret), they’re celebrating survival.

That brings me to the reason for the picture of the pink VW. This car belongs to Margaret who has just started chemo.

You might think that a pink car, named “Pinky,” is a little overkill for the Race for the Cure. Margaret’s husband, Larry, gave her the car for her birthday in January. That was long before she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Funny how God works.

Margaret sent me a note with the picture of “Pinky” that said, “It has been a hard struggle - especially coming back to work. I'm a survivor - will be a survivor - and this is not going to defeat me.”

We’ll keep Margaret in our prayers! I can’t wait to see her and “Pinky” at Race for the Cure on Sunday.
