At the end of the "Idol Gives Back" show, they even ended the program with all of the Idol contestants singing "Shout to the Lord." It was amazing to hear this Christian worship song performed on mainstream television, especially on a program wirth such a big audiance.
But something curious happened to the song. Jesus was removed from the first line of the song. Instead of singing, "My Jesus, my savior," the words on Idol were, "My shephard, my savior."
Why the change? The Fox network and Idol producers have been silent on the issue.
To make the removal of Jesus seem even more odd, Dolly Parton sang "Jesus and Gravity" the previous week on the show and they didn't take Jesus out of that song.
In fact, this season there seems to be an increase in the number of songs about faith being performed on American Idol as well as a larger number of contestants making reference to God, Jesus and religion.
Is it a good thing? Should Christians (like me) be using public platforms (like this) to talk about their beliefs?
